North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Saturday that it acquired the La storia della Arcana Famiglia television anime series. The anime will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow next year. Crunchyroll announced on Friday that it will stream the anime as it airs in Japan.
The anime adapts HuneX (VitaminX Addiction) and Comfort Soft's adventure game for female players. The story follows Arcana Famiglia, a self-appointed organization with mysterious powers that has protected a small Mediterranean island from pirates, foreign countries, and other threats. The only daughter of the family's "Papa," Felicitá, will be married to the next head of the family in two months — and the successor will be decided in a competition that Felicitá herself will take part in.
Chiaki Kon (When They Cry - Higurashi, Nodame Cantabile: Paris and Finale, Junjō Romantica) is directing the series at J.C. Staff. Masanao Akahoshi (both Toaru Majutsu no Index series, Freezing) is in charge of the scripts, and Mai Matsuura (Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru) is adapting Yomi Sarachi's (Steins;Gate manga) original character designs for animation. The anime will retain the cast from the original PSP game and tie-in drama CD project. Hitomi Harada will sing the opening theme as she did for the original game, while voice cast members Jun Fukuyama (Liberta) and Tsubasa Yonaga (Nova) will sing the anime's ending theme song.
The anime will premiere in Japan on July 1.

“LA STORIA DELLA ARCANA FAMIGLIA”
HOUSTON, June 30, 2012 — Will it be happiness? Romance? Or sleeping with the fishes? Find out what’s in the cards in Sentai Filmworks’ latest acquisition, La storia della Arcana Famiglia. Directed by Chiaki Kon (When They Cry – Higurashi, Junjo Romantica) and featuring character designs by Mai Matsuura and series composition by Massanao Akahoshi (Freezing, Ikki Tousen: Great Gaurdians).
Things are NOT going well for Felicitá. For years, the island of Regalo, has been protected by her father’s ”organization,” the Arcana Tarroco, whose success is due in no small part to the members’ unusual skills with Tarot Cards, not to mention the usual guns and knives. But now, unexpectedly, her father has decided to retire and, while the fact that his position will be filled by the winner of a series of duels doesn’t worry Felicitiá, the fact that he’s decided to throw HER into the contest as part of the prize certainly does! Especially since some of the contestants are her cousins, which is keeping things WAY too much in the family! Fortunately, our lady shark has two aces up her sleeve: as the head of the Swords division, she’s eligible to compete for herself, and with her favored Card, The Lovers, she can snoop into the minds of her would be suitors/rivals! It’s just too bad they have their own card tricks! Roll the Batchelorette, the Sopranos and that crazy Gypsy from the fair into an insane anime calzone, half-bake thoroughly and you’ve gotta lotta spicy mayhem ahead in LA STORIA DELLA ARCANA FAMIGLIA!
La storia della Arcana Famiglia will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow next year.
